Faircliff Plaza West Community Center Association 1428 Clifton Street, N.W. Washington, D.C. www.fpwcca.org
In 2005, in a joint venture Somerset, Eagle Point Enterprises and the Faircliff Plaza West Tenant Association acquired, preserved the affordable rents, and renovated Faircliff Plaza West. Faircliff Plaza West Community Center Association (FPWCCA) was founded in 2005, as a 501c3 non-profit corporation to provide a spectrum of holistic services to the residents and the immediately surrounding community. Through a partnership with the owners, FPWCCA receives a stream of funding dedicated to sustain a resident services program. FPWCCA is working with Housing Counseling Services (HCS) to design a program of services, provide outreach and leadership training and to connect residents to additional resources in the community.
The renovations undertaken in 2005 included the construction of a new community center with a new computer lab outfitted with 10 computers, which services as a locus for community activities.
Faircliff Plaza West participates in the Positive Directions through Dance scholarship program offered through a partnership between Somerset and the Dance Institute of Washington. The after-school classes and summer program offer children the opportunity to learn ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop, and African dances. Children also learn about nutrition and healthy living practices. At the end of each session, the children participate in a performance to demonstrate their skills for their families, friends and the community.
Positive Directions Through Dance students participated in a performance in August, 2011
