Fort View Apartments, formerly a vacant and blighted building located in Ward 4, was acquired by Somerset and THCAH in 2010 and renovations were completed in 2011, turning what was once a community liability into a community asset. Fort View now provides workforce housing for 62 families including 18 formerly homeless families who have successfully completed transitional housing programs. The renovations include new community rooms, a computer lab, and new offices to assist in resident services programming. A tenant services fund was established as part of the redevelopment of the property and an on-going commitment to obtain grants will assure program continuity.
Transitional Housing Corporation (THC) has been engaged to provide a Resident Services Program to assist families at Fort View to connect to quality social, education, and employment services. THC has begun offering workforce development workshops, public safety meetings, open computer lab times, and a homework assistance program for youth.
